NAACH REVOLUTION : Award for Excellence in Dance Choreography

Jayesh Mehta of AUM Events created Naach Revolution - a Desi dance fest with a twist in 2006, as part of his efforts to recognize the invaluable contributions of choreographers and first generation students in order to heighten public awareness of South Asian dance and music thereby awarding them

It was an evening of high energy and spectacular dance performances at the Aum Events Naach Revolution 2009 – the dance festival with a twist - held at Union County Arts Center, Rahway, NJ on Saturday, April 4, 2009.

As many as 428 students in different categories, choreographed by 17 most talented choreographers of New Jersey rocked the stage with 25 dances set to popular Bollywood numbers leaving more than 1,000 audience members screaming for more in a rolling 3-hour show that was judged by noted Indian actor and celebrity Darshan Jariwala of Gandhi my father, Halla Bol & Aaja Nachle fame along with Karishma Tanna of Zara Nachke Dikha and Comedy Circus fame.

Aum Events Directv Teen Star winner Vaibhavi Bhavsar and Aum Events Directv Mommy & Me winner Kriti Narwal (daughter) were the hosts for the evening along with Jayesh Mehta, President of Aum Events.
The dancers aged 5 to 18-and-above in the minor, junior and senior categories respectively, dazzled the audience with brightly colored Bollywood-style costumes to lend authenticity to the numbers they danced on. The auditorium reverberated time and again to unrelenting whistles, thunderous applause and loud cheering as the names of the more popular dance schools were announced and their students took the stage.
The categories included non-fusion and fusion for which the choreographers effortlessly fused classical, semi-classical, western and hip-hop moves to the beats of foot-tapping numbers from Bollywood movies. While the five year olds in the minor category made their parents proud and stole the hearts of the others in the audience with their Indian costumes, bright made-up faces and innocent efforts to remember their moves to the lengthy songs, the older dancers set the stage on fire with their unstoppable energy. Noted Bharatanatyam danseuse and Padma Bhushan awardee, Long Island-based Kamala Lakshman Narayan was presented a Lifetime Achievement award for her devotion to the art and efforts to pass it on to younger generation Indian Americans.
